BLACKSBURG, Va., July 7, 2011 –Max Kiebach has been named the new food and beverage director at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center. Kiebach comes to Blacksburg with more than 20 years of hospitality industry experience. He was most recently director of food and beverage for Bimini Bay Resort and Marina in the Bahamas. “We are thrilled to welcome Max to our property,” said Tom Shaver, the inn's general manager. “A highly skilled manager with extensive food and beverage experience at every level, including international positions, he is a great addition to our executive team.” Shaver and Kiebach are members of the executive team of Benchmark Hospitality International, which took over management of The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center on Jan. 1. Kiebach is involved in the restaurant industry’s efforts to create more healthful menu choices in fine-dining restaurants worldwide to combat obesity and improve population health. He has also held food and beverage operational and catering sales positions for properties throughout Florida and in New York City, including freestanding restaurants. He is a graduate of Brillat-Savarin School for Hotel Administration in Berlin. He also attended advanced hospitality industry studies at Cornell and is certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers. He is fluent in German, French, and English. Under direction of the Benchmark management team, changes at the inn have included a new dinner menu at Preston's and a new emphasis on locally grown and produced foods and all-natural ingredients. Virginia Tech’s Outreach and International Affairs supports the university’s engagement mission by creating community partnerships and economic development projects, offering professional development programs and technical assistance, and building collaborations to enrich discovery and learning – all with the overarching goal of improving the quality of life for people within the commonwealth and throughout the world.
