Student Guest FAQs


When will guest rooms be used for student housing?

A portion of The Inn's guest rooms will be used for student housing during the 2019-2020 academic year. Although The Inn will have less guest rooms available from August 10, 2019 through May 31, 2020, these guest rooms as well as the conference center will operate as usual during this time. The Inn will return to full hotel availability with room upgrades in June 2020.

How many guest rooms will be used for student housing? How many students will reside at The Inn? Where will student rooms be located?

Approximately 325 students will reside in 109 guest rooms located on the first, second, and third floors of The Inn. The fourth floor will remain open for overnight hotel guests.

What quiet hours will be enforced at The Inn?

Quiet hours are in effect daily from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Rooms, hallways, and other connecting areas should be generally noise-free during these hours. Courtesy hours are always in effect. Residents are expected to be courteous. Upon request or complaint, students are expected to lower the noise level of their activity. During final examination periods, quiet hours are in effect around the clock.

Will dining services be provided at The Inn? Will the hotel restaurant be part of the meal plan?

Students housed at The Inn at Virginia Tech will use their dining plans in campus dining centers as would any other student housed in any other facility. The Inn at Virginia Tech operates a restaurant that is not part of the student dining plan. However, The Inn at Virginia Tech will provide students with two breakfast vouchers per week to redeem for either grab-and-go items or the breakfast buffet at Preston’s. Any other meals purchased at The Inn at Virginia Tech are not included and are at the student’s expense.

Will students be able to park in The Inn’s lot?

There will be no student parking available at The Inn. Student parking at night and the weekends is not permitted.

What security measures will in in place during the student housing period?

Student Affairs and the leadership of The Inn have a comprehensive plan to have Resident Advisors and residence life professionals, staff, and security teams in place to ensure a smooth operation of all housing and residence life activities at The Inn. All university and Housing and Residence Life policies are in effect at The Inn as it will be treated the same as traditional campus residence halls. The Inn will have hotel electronic key fobs and students will be notified of the process in case of lock-out or lost key fobs. There is a charge for a lost key fob ($25). The Inn will require students to present their key fob (at exterior doors to the hotel section) to access resident floors.

Will room service be available to students?

Room service will not be available for student guests.

How will students get mail?

United States Postal Service mail will be delivered to the mail center in Owens Hall (all packages, letters, etc.) Students will receive an email when mail is received. UPS, FedEx, DHL packages will be delivered to The Inn at Virginia Tech.

Are pets allowed at The Inn?

No pets are allowed.
